The Tiburon Police Department has updated its Use of Force Policy to prohibit the application of the carotid control hold, effective immediately.
Tiburon Police recognizes the community’s concerns regarding this use of force application. This decision comes after discussions with other local and regional law enforcement agencies, and Governor Newsom’s recent direction to the California Commission on Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST) to cease law enforcement training on the carotid control hold.
We will continue to promote proactive strategies to achieve peaceful resolutions to conflict and are committed to working with all members of our community to enhance community safety.
