Do you want to learn more about the steps we are taking to help reduce the frequency and impact of natural hazards in your neighborhood? The Multi-Jurisdictional Local Hazard Mitigation Plan shares those project ideas and you can help us refine them!
The County of Marin, 11 cities and towns, and some special districts are collaborating this year to update the plan. The purpose is to assess the risk of natural hazards and propose projects to reduce impacts. We are looking to you, to tell us if the list of projects includes your primary concerns. We recommend you take the following steps;
What exactly is hazard mitigation, anyway? Mitigation is an action taken to reduce the risk, occurrence, and impact of a hazard. Vegetation management in the form of a prescribed fire, helps us reduce our risk of wildfire. Elevating utility boxes in flood-prone areas helps reduce the impact of flooding and marsh restoration can help reduce the impact of sea level rise. Mitigation planning is imperative for the protection of our land and community.
