This summer, the Town purchased land adjacent to the Richardson Bay Sanitation District that was occupied by several out-of-service water treatment ponds.
Last week, the contractor began work on the State-mandated closure process. The project will consist of placing fill within the ponds and grading the area, including demolishing existing wastewater pond piping and structures, demolishing existing retaining walls and fences around the perimeter of the ponds, placing and compacting clean fill within the ponds, smooth grading the area, installation of storm drain infrastructure, and hydroseeding the area for a smooth and usable finish.
Work will continue until the end of November. The Old Rail Trail will remain open during this period with traffic control in place.
